Experience music with all your senses in the C. Bechstein flagship store
Experience, see and feel music – the C. Bechstein flagship store in Düsseldorf makes all this possible. Designer Nik Schweiger was inspired by the pianos of the premium manufacturer and created a space that shows off the keyboard of the various models. In the bathrooms, the Vaia Dornbracht fitting designed by Sieger Design and the Aqua Alape bowl basin complement the concept.
Inspired by the grand piano
The façade of the flagship store – an imposing glass arch – is reminiscent of a concert grand piano. The three-dimensional ceiling structure inside the store is another highlight: It is inspired by the cast frame, the load-bearing component in the piano in which the strings are clamped and which is responsible for the piano’s sound. The impression of the grand piano strings made of stainless steel cable on the top conveys the feeling of being inside the instrument. Piano lacquer is furthermore used to create mirror surfaces in the room.
Special sound
The interior of the flagship store, which extends over 700 m², functions as a showroom and concert space. Meeting niches, retreat areas and a lounge invite personal exchange. Room gliders made of felt serve as design elements on the one hand. On the other hand, they absorb sound at higher frequencies and provide spatial and acoustic privacy during consultations.
The motif of oscillation patterns, which can be found on the room dividers, runs like a red thread through all elements of the room – from the luminous ceiling and the glass wall ornamentation to the door handles. Contrasting with this enduring element are the casually arranged monstera climbing and hanging plants under the seven daylight domes. A wall textile with the famous Huang Shan mountains in China rounds off the overall picture.
Unusual material composition in the bathrooms
The bathrooms ideally complement the concept, as they match the high-quality products from C. Bechstein. Fittings from the Vaia series by Dornbracht in Brushed Durabrass (23kt Gold) embody the symbiosis of classical and contemporary style elements. They are accompanied by the Aqua bowl basins from Alape in Deep Green. Their slender shape in 3 mm glazed steel makes them look light and delicate, just like the fittings.
