Exclusive townhouse in Rotterdam: Luxury hotel flair with fittings from Dornbracht and bathroom solutions from Alape

Iserlohn/Goslar, 22 February 2022

Combining form and function for perfect hospitality is a passion for Dutch interior designer Judith van Mourik. She created quite a stir, for example, with the award-winning furnishings for the Parc Broekhuizen hotel restaurant in Leersum, or with the design of the Relais & Chateaux Weeshuis in Gouda. Van Mourik draws on a highly detailed design language and careful choice of materials to create that special hotel atmosphere and the comfort that comes with it, and is happy to apply this approach to private homes as well. In her latest project, the Rotterdam “Townhouse”, she has selected several classic fittings from Dornbracht for the first-class appointments in the kitchen and three bathrooms, as well as high-quality bathroom solutions from Alape.

Classic design in a variety of finishes
The “Townhouse” is a 1920s residential building that was subsequently expanded to a floor area of almost 160 m². There is an open floor plan downstairs, where the kitchen, dining room and living area merge together like a hotel lounge. Judith van Mourik incorporated a coffee bar as a discreetly partitioning element. Timeless Tara fittings set the tone here and in the modern kitchen. The balanced proportions, characteristic cross-handles and distinctive, semi-circular spout are the trademarks of these design icons. The first Tara was created for Dornbracht by Sieger Design in 1992, and has since developed into a versatile series of fittings. In the “Townhouse”, the Dark Platinum matt and Brushed Durabrass surfaces with a real gold finish emphasise the exclusive nature of the ambience. The guest bathroom is also downstairs, and for this, Dornbracht supplied an individual special version of the classic fitting in green. This harmonises perfectly with the Folio bathroom solution from Alape.

More hospitality in the private domain
There are two more bathrooms upstairs also furnished with Tara, as well as VAIA and Meta fittings for the washstands and showers. Judith van Mourik has integrated one bathroom directly into the bedroom. The second one is specifically designed as a children’s bathroom and is all-white, including the fittings. The interior designer looked to Alape for a design mirror with dimmable lighting, the Assist shelf system, the striking Metaphor washbasin, and the Aqua Deep Indigo bowl with a nuanced interplay of colours. The striking design and functionality that are a feature of all the “Townhouse” bathrooms deliberately allude to a contemporary and future-oriented hotel architecture. Bathroom products that are functionally innovative, yet timeless in design, are increasingly bringing more luxury and hospitality to the private domain with their harmonious design concepts.
