Townhouse in Rotterdam: Interior designer Judith van Mourik sets the scene for Dornbracht and Alape products
Homely, lively, bright and stylish: this is how the latest project by Dutch interior designer Judith van Mourik can be described. In the “Townhouse” in Rotterdam, she once again demonstrates her sense for high-quality furnishings and special material combinations. She effortlessly combines simple elements with striking, unusual details. The result is a unique atmosphere in which modern trends and comfort are not mutually exclusive. In the kitchen and bathrooms, fittings by Dornbracht and washbasin solutions by Alape contribute significantly to this individual style.
Open design on the first floor
The “Townhouse”, a residential building from the 1920s, has a living area of around 160 m². The open floor plan of the first floor allows the kitchen, dining and living room to merge. Due to the flowing boundaries, the bright, large rooms invite communication. In addition to the deliberately chosen colours, a coffee bar serves as a separating element between the rooms. Here, a Tara Ultra as Hot & Cold Water Dispenser in Brushed Durabrass underlines the noble, exclusive ambience. The modern interpretation of the design icon is also used in the kitchen: In Dark Platinum matt, it provides a striking contrast to the light-coloured work surface. In the guest bathroom, which is also located on the first floor, an individual special version of Tara in delicate green was installed. This harmonises perfectly with the Folio washbasin solution.
Two different bathrooms on the upper floor
The two bathrooms on the upper floor could hardly be more different: Judith van Mourik integrated one directly into the bedroom. Vaia in Dark Platinum matt and the Aqua Deep Indigo bowl with a nuanced play of colours are at the center of the furnishings. Functionality and aesthetics are provided by the Assist storage system in the shower. The children’s bathroom is self-contained and kept entirely in white. Here, the designer mirror with dimmable lighting, the striking Metaphor sink as well as the Meta and Tara faucets in matt white underscore the clean look.
Focus on hospitality
The fact that Judith van Mourik’s projects focuse on the feel-good factor is due not least to her work for hotels. The interior designer has already impressed with the furnishings of numerous vacation domiciles, including Parc Broekhuizen in Leersum and the Relais & Chateaux Weeshuis in Gouda. With the “Townhouse”, van Mourik transfers the contemporary, trendy hotel architecture to the private sphere. The design-strong and functional equipment of the bathrooms reflect this impressively because they emphasise the luxurious, hospitable character of the house.
